Co-Curricular Programs

ASSISTANCE FOR CO-CURRICULAR PROGRAMMING

WHAT IS CO-CURRICULAR PROGRAMMING?

According to The American Heritage Dictionary, “co-curricular” programs are ones that “complement, but are not a part of the regular curriculum.”   The Office of Student Life offers to help faculty create and execute such programs in their classrooms, or for the college community at large.  Each Academic Division is allotted $2000 per academic year to use for Co-Curricular Programming, and planning assistance is available from the Coordinator of Co-Curricular Programs.  Some examples of Co-Curricular Programming are:

  • Providing students with financial assistance to attend conferences, workshops, seminars, and meetings outside the classroom.
  • Stipends for guest speakers on campus.
  • Arrangements can be made for speakers to address several classes or the entire college community.
  • Films: Documentaries, foreign or classics.
  • Local field trips, etc.Career exploration.
  • Other: Additional requests will be evaluated on an individual basis.

  3. Any faculty member requesting event coordination assistance should submit a Co-Curricular Program Application at least four weeks prior to the event, with the signature of the Division Chair of the Division from which the funds (if any) will be used.
NOTE:Applications submitted after this time are not guaranteed to be approved.
  4. The Division Chair, Coordinator of Co-Curricular Programs, and Director of Student Life will determine the feasibility of each proposal, and either approve or reject the Application.  In certain cases, the Application may also be forwarded to the Vice President of Student Services for approval.
  5. Special attempts should be made to include students in classes taught after 5:00 p.m.
  6. Funds may be used to purchase refreshments only to complement an approved Co-Curricular Program.  All refreshments must be arranged through HCC’s Food Service Provider.
